OSSC CGL 2025 Exam Pattern and Syllabus
The OSSC (Odisha Staff Selection Commission) Combined Graduate Level 2025 exam is conducted in multiple stages – a Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam (with two papers), followed by a skill test (for certain posts) and document verification. Below, we present student-friendly tables for the Prelims and Mains exam pattern and detailed syllabus, based on the latest 2025 sources. Each table is organized for clarity and easy reference.
Prelims Exam Pattern (OSSC CGL 2025)
The preliminary exam is an objective-type test comprising 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) across various sections. It is a qualifying stage (marks not added to final merit) with a total duration of 2.5 hours. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. The table below outlines the Prelims pattern, including section-wise distribution of questions:
Subject/Section | No. of Questions | Total Marks | Duration |
Arithmetic (Quantitative) | 30 | 30 | 2.5 hours |
Data Interpretation | 30 | 30 | |
Reasoning Ability | 30 | 30 | |
Current Affairs (Nat’l) | 20 | 20 | |
Computer Awareness | 20 | 20 | |
Odisha GK (State-specific) | 20 | 20 | |
Total | 150 | 150 |
Note: Questions are of 10th standard level and the prelims exam is conducted offline (OMR based test) Candidates who qualify the Prelims proceed to the Mains stage. (OSSC CGL Previous Year Question)
Mains Exam Pattern (OSSC CGL 2025)
Candidates who clear prelims appear for the mains exam, which consists of two papers – one Language paper and one General Studies paper. Both papers are conducted on the same day or separate sessions, each of 2.5 hours. Paper I (Language) includes both objective (OMR-based) and descriptive questions, while Paper II (General Studies) is entirely objective. Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer applies to all MCQs in both papers. The table below summarizes the mains pattern:
Paper Name | Subject(s) Covered | Marks | Duration | Mode | Question Type |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Paper- I | English and Odia | 100 | 2.5 Hours | Offline (OMR + Descriptive) | 80 MCQs (objective) + descriptive (Precis & translation) |
paper- II | Polity, History, Economy, Science, Current Affairs, Odisha GK, etc. | 100 | 2.5 Hours | Offline (OMR + Descriptive) | Objective (MCQ) |
Key Points: In Paper I, about 80 questions are MCQs to be answered on an OMR sheet, and the remaining ~20 marks are from descriptive questions (e.g. precis writing, translations) answered in a separate booklet. Paper II consists solely of multiple-choice questions covering General Studies. Both papers carry equal weight (100 marks each, total 200 marks for Mains)
