Every graduate in the state who dreams of a khaki uniform begins at the same door, and that door is the official Odisha Police SI Syllabus. Sub-Inspector of Police is a graduate level state post, and the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) fills it through a Computer Based Test that is followed by body measurement and ground events. Reading the Odisha Police SI Syllabus early saves months of blind study.
A bare topic list on its own settles very little. What really guides your daily plan is the mark split of each paper, the penalty for a careless tick, and the height, chest and running figures you must meet on the ground. The tables on this page open out the Odisha Police SI Syllabus paper by paper, subject by subject and event by event, so nothing is left to guesswork.
The Odisha Police SI Syllabus is examined in a single Computer Based Test that carries two separate papers. Paper-1 is a language paper built on Odia and English, while Paper-2 is a wide General Studies paper. Both are objective, and the two of them are worth 300 marks in total. The snapshot below sets out the Odisha Police SI Syllabus against its mark weightage.
Computer Based Test (CBT) β Paper Wise Mark Distribution
| Test | Paper | Subject | Questions | Marks | Time | Language | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CBT | Paper-1 | Odia & English | 100 | 100 | 1.5 hours | β | MCQ |
| CBT | Paper-2 | General Studies | 200 | 200 | 3 hours | English | MCQ |
| Total | β | β | β | 300 | 4.5 hours | β | β |

Points to Note Before You Begin
| Item | What the Notification Says |
|---|---|
| Physical Measurement & Physical Test | Only for qualifying nature |
| No. of candidates called for PET | 3 times of total vacancies |
| Negative marking | 0.25 only for MCQ |
| Physical events | Check the event tables below (only for qualifying nature) |
Two lines in that pattern table decide a lot about how you read the Odisha Police SI Syllabus. The ground stage is qualifying only, so a fast run adds nothing to your merit total, and every wrong tick in the written test quietly removes a quarter mark from the score you worked for.
Sub-Inspector of Police is one of the posts Odisha advertises for degree holders, and the written stage of that drive is set entirely by the Odisha Police SI Syllabus. The Odisha Police Recruitment Board announced its 2025 drive for 933 vacancies, and Sub-Inspector of Police stood as the only post in that advertisement.
The board handles the whole cycle on its own portal, from the advertisement and the online form to the admit card, the result and the final merit list. Bookmark the official commission website and treat it as the only source that settles a date or a rule. Any revision to the Odisha Police SI Syllabus is announced there before it reaches any coaching notice.
Many aspirants sit for more than one state exam in the same season. If that is you, run the Odisha Police SI Syllabus beside the OSSSC RI syllabus and the OSSSC PEO syllabus. General Studies fills a large share of all three papers, so a single round of reading can serve every form you fill.
Paper-1 of the Odisha Police SI Syllabus puts 100 questions in front of you for 100 marks and gives one and a half hours. It is a language paper drawn from Odia and English, so grammar, translation and comprehension carry the whole weight here. Speed is rarely the problem in this paper; accuracy in grammar rules is.
Paper-2 is the heavy half of the Odisha Police SI Syllabus. It holds 200 questions for 200 marks in three hours, is set in English, and covers General Studies in the broad sense: science, current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, aptitude, reasoning and computer basics. Both papers are multiple choice, and the combined sitting runs to four and a half hours.
Negative marking is fixed at 0.25 and applies to the multiple choice questions. Four careless guesses therefore erase one honest correct answer. Only the candidates who reach the qualifying mark fixed by the commission move ahead, and the number called for the ground stage is three times the total vacancies. The Odisha Police SI Syllabus rewards steady reading, never a blind guess.
Pattern on paper is one thing; pattern in a real question booklet is another. Sit once with the question papers from earlier Odisha Police SI exams and you will see how the Odisha Police SI Syllabus spreads those 200 General Studies questions across the subjects listed further down this page.
Here is the chapter level breakdown of the Odisha Police SI Syllabus. Read the right hand column slowly, because it names the exact areas the board draws questions from. Tick each chapter as you finish it and the whole list stops feeling endless within a few weeks.
Subject Wise Chapter List
| Subject | Chapters Covered |
|---|---|
| Odia | Translation from English to Odia, comprehension of unseen text, Odia vocabulary with word formation and syntax, spelling and punctuation, synonyms, antonyms |
| English | Verb, preposition, adverb, subject-verb agreement, error correction and recognition, tenses, sentence rearrangement, fill in the blanks with articles, comprehension, answering questions based on unseen passages, vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms |
| General Science | General science along with recent scientific and technological developments |
| Current Affairs | Events of national and international importance |
| History | India from ancient times and the Indian National Movement |
| Geography | Physical and economic geography of the country, main features of Indian agriculture and national resources |
| Indian Polity | Constitution of India, Panchayati Raj, administration |
| Indian Economy | Planning and economic development of India |
| Aptitude | Ratio & proportion, percentage, average, partnership, quadratic equation, profit and loss, time and work, pipes and cisterns, boats and stream, problems on age, problems on train, mixture of allegation, time, speed & distance, mensuration |
| Reasoning | A. Verbal β number series, alphabet series, test of direction sense, coding-decoding, number ranking, arithmetic reasoning, problem of age calculation, analogy, decision making. B. Non-verbal β non-verbal series, mirror images, cubes & dice, grouping identical figures, embedded figures |
| Basic of Computer | Introduction to computer, computer architecture, operating system, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office |
Notice how aptitude and reasoning together own a large slice of the Odisha Police SI Syllabus. Those two are pure practice subjects, and a candidate who solves twenty sums a day will outscore a candidate who only reads formulas.
The Odisha Police SI Syllabus ends with the written test, but the selection process does not. Candidates shortlisted after the CBT face a measurement round where height, weight and chest are recorded against a fixed standard. This stage is qualifying, but failing it ends the attempt, so check your numbers well before the call letter arrives.
Physical Measurement Standards by Category
| Category | Height | Weight (in kg) | Chest β Expanded | Chest β Unexpanded |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Male β General, OBC, SEBC | 168 cm | 55 | 79 | 84 |
| Female β General, OBC, SEBC | 155 cm | 47.5 | No Limit | No Limit |
| Male β SC/ST | 163 cm | 50 | 76 | 81 |
| Female β SC/ST | 150 cm | 45 | No Limit | No limit |
β On a phone, swipe this table sideways to see the Weight (in kg), Chest β Expanded and Chest β Unexpanded columns.
Male candidates from SC and ST categories get a five centimetre relaxation in height and a lower chest figure, while female candidates have no chest requirement at all. Weight is measured in kilograms and the height reading is taken without footwear. These body standards sit outside the Odisha Police SI Syllabus, yet they end as many attempts as the written paper does.
After the measurement round comes the ground round. Two events are held, running and long jump, and each has a separate mark for men and women. Three attempts are allowed in the jump, so one poor landing does not finish you.
Physical Efficiency Test β Event Chart
| Event | Gender | Distance | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Running | Male | 1.6 Km | 8 min |
| Running | Female | 1.6 Km | 10 min |
| Long Jump | Male | 3.66 Meters | 3 attempts |
| Long Jump | Female | 2.77 Meters | 3 attempts |

Eight minutes for 1.6 kilometres is a steady pace rather than a sprint, but it still has to be practised on a track and not only on paper. Start a short morning run the day you open the Odisha Police SI Syllabus, not the week the admit card lands.
The date, time and venue of the Computer Based Test, of the physical test, and of the verification of documents relating to weightage marks are conveyed to eligible candidates through the admission letter. That letter is downloaded from the commissionβs website from a date notified later, so no separate post reaches your address.
A list of rejected candidates is also displayed on the same website before the preliminary examination. Check that list carefully, because a small mismatch in the form is easier to notice there than on exam day.
Candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in the written test, along with marks for an NCC certificate and marks for achievement in sports as fixed by the commission at its discretion, are called for the Documents Verification Test. Keep the original certificates ready in one folder from the day you apply. The Odisha Police SI Syllabus decides the marks you earn; this paperwork decides whether those marks are counted at all.
Working through the Odisha Police SI Syllabus is faster when the practice material sits in the same place. The combo bank below carries previous year questions from many Odisha examinations and covers most of the General Studies ground listed above. It is free and opens straight in your browser.

A long chapter list looks frightening until it is cut into weeks. The routine below splits the Odisha Police SI Syllabus into blocks that fit an ordinary working day, and it needs no coaching fee.
Mock tests matter as much as reading the Odisha Police SI Syllabus. Solve full length sets under a clock, and if you want extra objective practice from a similar Odisha paper, the SSD Sevak Sevika question paper set holds a big pile of general knowledge and arithmetic sums to work through.
The basic figure quoted for the post is 16,800 rupees. Allowances are added on top of this as per the rules that apply at the time of joining, so the amount in hand differs from the basic pay.
Finish your graduation first. Once you hold a degree you are eligible to apply for the Sub-Inspector post whenever the board opens the online form, and then you clear the written test built on the Odisha Police SI Syllabus, followed by the physical stage.
Graduation is the required qualification. The whole paper standard is set at that level, which is why the General Studies half of the Odisha Police SI Syllabus goes well beyond school textbooks.
Applicants aged between 21 and 25 years fall inside the quoted band. Category wise relaxation, wherever it applies, follows the rule printed in the advertisement, so always confirm the cut-off date given there.
The basic figure quoted for the Constable post is 8,200 rupees. Constable is a separate recruitment from the Sub-Inspector drive and carries its own pay level.
A plus two pass is the stated qualification for Constable. Sub-Inspector, in contrast, needs a full degree, and the two examinations are advertised separately.
Two events are held, running and long jump. Men run 1.6 kilometres in 8 minutes and women in 10 minutes, while the jump target is 3.66 metres for men and 2.77 metres for women with three attempts each. Neither event forms part of the written Odisha Police SI Syllabus.
Odia and English make up Paper-1 for 100 marks. General Studies fills Paper-2 for 200 marks. The written stage is therefore worth 300 marks in all, and every question in it is multiple choice.
Yes. A deduction of 0.25 is applied for each wrong multiple choice answer. That is why blind guessing is a poor tactic and why disciplined skipping is part of a smart plan. The penalty is the same for every subject in the Odisha Police SI Syllabus.
Three times the total number of vacancies get shortlisted for the physical event stage. That stage is only qualifying in nature, so the marks scored there do not add to your merit position.
Everything sits together on one screen now: the two paper structure, the mark split, the chapter list for every subject, the height and chest standards, the running and jump targets, and the rules on negative marking and shortlisting. That is the full demand the Odisha Police SI Syllabus makes of a candidate, written in plain language.
Print the chapter table, stick it above your desk and tick a line every time you close a topic. Add a short run three mornings a week and a timed mock test every Sunday. Do that steadily and the uniform stops being a wish and starts being a plan. Keep this page bookmarked; whatever the board later revises in the Odisha Police SI Syllabus or the exam pattern will show up right here.
