Every year lakhs of students in Odisha wait for a Level-1 railway job. Before you open a single book, you must read the Railway Group D Syllabus from the first line to the last. This page gives you the full subject list, the CBT exam pattern and the PET rules in one simple place.
The Railway Group D Syllabus stays close to the old pattern, so past question papers still help a lot. India Railway Recruitment Board had declared 103769 vacancies in 2019 for 10th pass candidates, and 2555 of those vacancies were allocated for RRB Bhubaneswar Group D. The level of this exam is not so difficult as Banking, SSC or UPSC, so a normal student can crack it with steady practice.
The table below is the heart of this page. It shows the four subjects of the CBT and the chapters that come under each subject. Read this Railway Group D Syllabus table once every week so the topic names stay fresh in your mind.
| Subjects | Chapters |
|---|---|
| General Science | The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level (CBSE) |
| Mathematics | Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc. |
| Reasoning | Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions, Puzzle, Water & Mirror Image. |
| GK & CA | General Awareness on current affairs in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subject of importance. |
Notice that nothing in this list goes above the 10th standard level. That is the biggest comfort in the whole Railway Group D Syllabus. A student who is weak in study can still finish the full topic list in a few months of honest work.
The first stage is a Computer Based Test. The marks split below tells you where to spend more hours. Reasoning carries the highest weight in the Railway Group D Syllabus, so never keep it for the last week.
| Exam | Subject | Marks | Time | Language |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CBT | General Science | 25 | 90 Min | Odia & English |
| CBT | Mathematics | 25 | 90 Min | Odia & English |
| CBT | Reasoning | 30 | 90 Min | Odia & English |
| CBT | GK & CA | 20 | 90 Min | Odia & English |
| Total Mark | — | 100 | 90 Min | Odia & English |
Because of that negative marking rule, blind guessing hurts you. Attempt only the questions you really know from the Railway Group D Syllabus and leave the rest.
Here is a quick snapshot of the recruitment for candidates in the Bhubaneswar region. Keep this beside the Railway Group D Syllabus while you plan your study routine.

This is a Level-1 job, so the basic qualification is a 10th pass certificate. That is exactly why the Railway Group D Syllabus never goes above matric level in any subject. Students who are jobless after 10th, +2 or +3 are all welcome to apply.
Age limit, relaxation for reserved categories and the fee are printed in the official notification each time the vacancy comes out. Read that PDF once before you fill the form. Nothing in the Railway Group D Syllabus changes because of your category, only the cut off changes.

Out of the 103769 vacancies declared in 2019, 2555 vacancies were allocated for the RRB Bhubaneswar region.
