Railway Group D Syllabus 2026 – Exam Pattern, PET & PDF BBSR

Every year lakhs of students in Odisha wait for a Level-1 railway job. Before you open a single book, you must read the Railway Group D Syllabus from the first line to the last. This page gives you the full subject list, the CBT exam pattern and the PET rules in one simple place.

The Railway Group D Syllabus stays close to the old pattern, so past question papers still help a lot. India Railway Recruitment Board had declared 103769 vacancies in 2019 for 10th pass candidates, and 2555 of those vacancies were allocated for RRB Bhubaneswar Group D. The level of this exam is not so difficult as Banking, SSC or UPSC, so a normal student can crack it with steady practice.

Railway Group D Syllabus Subject Wise Table

The table below is the heart of this page. It shows the four subjects of the CBT and the chapters that come under each subject. Read this Railway Group D Syllabus table once every week so the topic names stay fresh in your mind.

Subjects Chapters
General Science The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level (CBSE)
Mathematics Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

GK & CA General Awareness on current affairs in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subject of importance.

Notice that nothing in this list goes above the 10th standard level. That is the biggest comfort in the whole Railway Group D Syllabus. A student who is weak in study can still finish the full topic list in a few months of honest work.

Railway Group D Syllabus Exam Pattern For CBT

The first stage is a Computer Based Test. The marks split below tells you where to spend more hours. Reasoning carries the highest weight in the Railway Group D Syllabus, so never keep it for the last week.

Exam Subject Marks Time Language
CBT General Science 25 90 Min Odia & English
CBT Mathematics 25 90 Min Odia & English
CBT Reasoning 30 90 Min Odia & English
CBT GK & CA 20 90 Min Odia & English
Total Mark 100 90 Min Odia & English

Important Notes On The CBT

  • Based on the merit of the candidates in the CBT, candidates shall be called for PET three times the community wise total vacancy of the posts notified against RRBs and RRCs.
  • There will be negative marking and 1/3 marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • The paper is available in Odia and English, so language is never a barrier for Odisha students.
  • Total marks of the paper are 100 and the time given is 90 minutes.

Because of that negative marking rule, blind guessing hurts you. Attempt only the questions you really know from the Railway Group D Syllabus and leave the rest.

How To Prepare With Railway Group D Syllabus

A plan beats hard work without direction. Follow these simple steps and you will finish the whole topic list in time.

  1. Print the Railway Group D Syllabus table and stick it on your study wall. Tick a chapter the day you finish it.
  2. Give the first two hours of each day to Reasoning, because it carries 30 marks, the highest of all four subjects.
  3. Keep Mathematics for the fresh morning slot. Number system, percentage and time-work questions repeat almost every year.
  4. Read General Science straight from your 10th class NCERT book. Do not buy a thick guide for it.
  5. Spend fifteen minutes daily on current affairs for the GK and CA part. One monthly magazine is enough.
  6. Take one full mock test every Sunday and check where you lose marks. A test series will show you the weak subject quickly.
  7. Revise the full Railway Group D Syllabus in the last twenty days instead of starting anything new.

Attempt speed matters in a 90 minute paper. Practise with a timer so you finish 100 questions without panic in the real hall.

Benefits Of Following The Official Topic List

Many students study whatever comes in front of them and then complain that the paper was hard. Reading the correct topic list first solves that problem.

  • You stop wasting time on chapters that are never asked in the exam.
  • You know the exact mark weight of each subject, so revision becomes easy.
  • Your confidence grows because the Railway Group D Syllabus stays within 10th standard level.
  • You can pick the right book instead of buying five books for the same chapter.
  • It is a life settled central government job with a fixed pay scale and job security.

This is a golden opportunity for Odisha candidates who are sitting at home after 10th, +2 or +3. Use the Railway Group D Syllabus as your daily map and the job is reachable.
